September Is National Preparedness Month

Being prepared for any situation could very well save you and your family's life. Whether
it's a hurricane, fire, or other life-threatening event, having emergency supplies on hand
is crucial to responding effectively.

These supplies should be available for each member in the home, including your pets.
In this article, we'll go over the essentials you need to consider preparing in the event of
a dangerous situation that cannot otherwise be prevented.

Emergency Supplies
Have you got your emergency supplies planned? This is our top list to consider.

Non-perishable items
This might include canned foods, dried goods, potato chips, and bottled water. You
might not get your next meal for some time.

Batteries
Batteries power many things, including flashlights, cars, and radio communication
devices. Having them on hand is essential.

Flashlight
Having a source of light when there is no street lights nor house lights is an ingenious
method of illumination - plus they are handheld for directing the light.

Money
You should have cash on hand. If the electricity is out or banks are closed, you won't be
able to withdraw funds. Have some cash on hand in case of an emergency.

Essential Medications
If you or members of your family require ongoing medication for a particular condition,
be sure to have these prepared, preferably in bulk where you can quickly grab the
stash.

Clothes
Ensure there is something warm, like a jacket or a sweatshirt, to wear when the
temperatures drop. Sturdy shoes that are comfortable to travel in is smart, and blankets
are also a good idea.

First Aid Kit
These usually have necessary items that can be essential to save someone's life,
cleaning up a wound, or bandaging injuries. Have one with you at all times.
We believe these are key items in the event of an emergency. There may be others
depending on your environment.

Furthermore, it's crucial to remember that the importance of emergency plans should be
communicated with your family in what to do should the situation arise.

Knowing what to do can mean the difference between life and death - so be sure
everyone knows the emergency plan for each scenario!
